The fruit was sourced from a vineyard in El Dorado County in the Fairplay area at an elevation around 2300 feet above sea level.  It was aged in a neutral oak barrel with French & Hungarian Oak staves inserted and removed to obtain the flavors desired.   The Western slope of the Sierra Foothills provides a unique climate zone for growing red wine grapes.  The slopes enjoy hot days that cool quickly when the sun goes down creating a convection that sucks cold air over the vines.  The vines shut down and wake up with the morning sun. This process allows the grapes vines to aspirate and pull water and nutrients from below the soil down thru scans of mineral deposits.   The  run off from spring snow melt provides the vines with incredibly clean fresh sources of water and scans of minerals create some interesting complex wines. The wines of the foothills are quickly becoming recognized throughout the world for their unique complex flavors, brightness and incredible noses.
